China’s first domestically built large cruise ship, Adora Magic City, has completed 84 journeys and welcomed 600,000 tourists in the first year of its commercial operation, according to Shanghai Customs.

The city of Edinburgh is the latest to join the expanding trend of addressing the challenges brought about by tourism via a tourist tax.
According to news reports, the proposed levy has actually been in the works for quite some time. The idea was first floated back in 2019 and a measure was introduced in 2022. Fast forward to this month and it seems councillors in Edinburgh have voted for the introduction of a tourist tax with the goal of raising about 50 million pounds a year, or about $65.8 million, per BBC.

Dara Sakor International Airport, which is operated by Coastal Airport Investment Co. Ltd (CAI), began trial operations on the morning of December 26, with the arrival of a chartered flight from Phnom Penh International Airport carrying more than 50 passengers.
Located in Kiri Sakor and Botum Sakor districts of Koh Kong Province, Dara the airport is being developed by CAI, with an investment of $200 million. Now in the first phase, a 218 hectare area has been developed. In the next phase, an additional 1,000 hectares will be developed.

Air Canada, the national carrier of Canada, has signed a firm order with Airbus for five more latest generation single-aisle A220-300s on the fifth anniversary since taking delivery of its first A220 in December 2019. This follows an initial order in 2016 for 45 A220-300s and a reorder in 2022 for 15 more. Including this latest reorder, Air Canada’s total firm orders for the A220-300 stands at 65 aircraft.

The Lufthansa Group is purchasing additional Airbus long-haul aircraft, increasing its firm orders for A350-1000 aircraft from ten to 15. The state-of-the-art aircraft of this order will be delivered between 2028 and 2031. The total value of the order is around two billion US dollars at list price. With a total of 60 A350-900s and 15 A350-1000s, the Lufthansa Group is one of the largest A350 customers worldwide.

China Airlines, the Taiwan based carrier, announced plans to order ten Airbus A350-1000 passenger aircraft, ten Boeing 777-9 passenger aircraft, and four 777-8F freighters. The new fleet is expected to begin deliveries in 2029 and will be used for long-haul passenger and cargo routes to North America and Europe. China Airlines is actively optimizing its fleet size to deliver robust services for the global passenger and cargo markets.
In November 2023, China Airlines began a comprehensive assessment on the transition of passenger and cargo fleet capacities and the demands of network development. A team of leading international and aviation consultants was also retained in February 2024 to study the safety, technology, and cost-benefit of each aircraft. Multiple rounds of talks and price negotiations were conducted with the manufacturers before the new aircraft introduction plan was finalized.
