Phoenix Reisen is offering guests the option to rebook river cruises for free on the Danube, Moselle and Rhine rivers due to low water levels in the region.

According to a statement published on the company’s website, the offer is valid for cruises departing up to and including August 12, 2026.

“Have you booked a river cruise and are wondering whether it will take place given the current low water levels in Germany and on the Danube? We understand your concerns and would like to put your mind at ease,” the company said.

Phoenix Reisen said that the offer excludes itineraries to the Netherlands and Belgium, noting that not all bodies of water are affected.

The company added that a lack of rainfall led to the current scenario, adding that the situation is beyond anyone’s control.

“The situation on the rivers varies considerably; often, mere centimeters can determine whether a particular section is navigable,” it added.

“We assure you that we, together with all those responsible, are doing everything possible to ensure your booked river cruise goes ahead as planned.”

The statement noted that Phoenix Reisen has been operating river cruises for decades and has successfully managed high and low water levels in the past.

“Nevertheless, due to unforeseen circumstances, changes to the itinerary or ship may occur, even at very short notice. In such a case, we will, of course, inform guests proactively and as soon as possible.”

Phoenix Reisen asked guests not to contact the company directly, given that “the situation is very dynamic and depends on many factors.”

Cruise Industry News, the low water levels on the Danube and Rhine have been disrupting cruise operations in the region for the past few weeks.

More recently, a Viking vessel ran aground and had to be evacuated while cruising near Vidin in Northwestern Bulgaria.
