Michael Heath has resigned as chief executive officer of Aurora Expeditions after four years leading the expedition cruise line, according to the company.
“Aurora Expeditions confirms that CEO Michael Heath has made the decision to leave the business following a significant period of growth and transformation for the company,” the company said.
“During his tenure, Michael has played a pivotal role in leading Aurora Expeditions through the challenges of the post-COVID recovery period, while helping position the business for long-term global growth,” Aurora Expeditions said.
“Under his leadership, Aurora successfully expanded its fleet to three purpose-built small expedition ships, further strengthening the company’s position as a global leader in expedition travel.”
Heath joined Aurora Expeditions in June 2022, replacing Monique Ponfoort, and oversaw Aurora becoming B Corp-certified in 2024.
His tenure saw the company expand from one ship to three, with the Douglas Mawson launching in December 2025 and the Sylvia Earle becoming the first Infinity Class ship to trial 100 percent biofuel.
The company recently completed its largest Antarctic season to date, operating 30 voyages and welcoming a 30 percent increase in passengers.
The board has commenced a recruitment process to appoint Heath’s successor and will work closely with him to ensure a smooth and orderly transition, the company said.
“The board would like to sincerely thank Michael for his tremendous contribution, leadership and commitment to the business and wishes him every success in the future,” Aurora Expeditions said.
