Carnival Corporation has broken ground for its new global headquarters in Miami.

This marks the official start of construction on the new campus in Waterford Business District, with site work scheduled to begin immediately.

To mark the occasion, Miami-Dade County formally recognized May 1 as “Carnival Place Day,” the cruise line said in a statement.

“Breaking ground at 887 Carnival Place feels less like a beginning and more like a natural next step in proudly carrying forward our 50+-year South Florida legacy as we create the foundation for our next chapter here,” said Josh Weinstein, CEO of Carnival Corporation.

“This campus embodies the intersection of our commitment to the team members who propel us and the guests who inspire us. We are especially honored by Miami-Dade’s ‘Carnival Place Day’ proclamation and are grateful to the county that championed us from the start as we continue to grow in the place we call home.”

The ceremony was attended by local Miami-Dade community leaders, port officials and development partners.

Planned for completion in 2028, the campus will serve as the global headquarters for the company and its cruise lines, housing more than 2,000 team members initially.

Plans for the development include an estimated 700,000 square feet of workspace, including training and rehearsal facilities for onboard entertainers, paired with open collaboration zones, individual workplaces and meeting rooms.

“Today is a powerful statement about the future of our community and Miami-Dade’s role as the Cruise Capital of the World. Carnival Corporation’s new global headquarters is more than a building,” said Miami-Dade County Commissioner Natalie Milian Orbis.

“It is a major investment in jobs, opportunity and the people who make this one of the strongest places in the world to do business. We are proud that Carnival continues to call our community home, and I am committed to making sure this project delivers lasting economic impact for the families, workers and small businesses we serve.”
