Following her 134-day world cruise, Phoenix Reisen’s Amera entered drydock this week at Chantiers Naval de Marseille for scheduled refurbishment work.

Working with the ship management company BSM, Phoenix Reisen is investing approximately 15 million euros in a number of upgrades.

Work will cover the modernization of 160 guest bathrooms as well as the redesign of the ship’s beauty salon and sauna spaces and a comprehensive renovation of the show lounge.

Additional work will include new windows in the Pazifik Lounge and the redesign of the outdoor pool area on Deck 9.

Other upgrades will include the HVAC system in restaurants and bars, refrigeration and elevators.

Energy efficiency control systems will also be installed to ensure more energy efficient ship operations, according to a statement from Phoenix Reisen.

The Amera will return to service on May 23 with a cruise starting in Savona and concluding in Bremerhaven where she will be offering a summer program to the Baltic, Scandinavia and around the British Isles, before sailing a longer voyage to Canada in September.

The Amera was originally built as the Royal Viking Sun and entered service in 1988. She later sailed as the Seabourn Sun and the Prinsendam, before becoming the Amera and sailing for the German Bonn-based tour operator starting in 2019.
