Poseidon Expeditions has wrapped up its 2025-26 Antarctic season.
According to the company, the season’s standout moment came during the New Year cruise, when near-perfect weather conditions allowed the expedition team to land at Bailey Head on Deception Island, one of Antarctica’s most challenging landing sites.
The remote location, situated within a flooded volcanic caldera, is home to over 100,000 breeding pairs of chinstrap penguins.
“Bailey Head is one of the most challenging landing sites in Antarctica, but thanks to perfect weather and almost no swell, our team made it happen,” the company said.
After the landing, the Sea Spirit sailed into the island’s caldera, allowing guests to experience the volcanic geography from the water.
The season also included several expedition firsts and milestones.
For the first time, Poseidon reached King Haakon Bay, a remote corner of South Georgia where Ernest Shackleton came ashore during his legendary 1916 journey after the loss of the Endurance.
Guests also visited Vernadsky Research Base, a Ukrainian Antarctic station home to the southernmost bar in the world.
The season also featured crossings of the Antarctic Circle.
Award-winning wildlife photographer Dmitry Kokh joined several cruises this season and will return in October 2026 for the Falklands & South Georgia itinerary.
Poseidon Expeditions is set to begin its Arctic summer season on May 6, 2026, with the Best of the British Isles itinerary.
