Carnival Cruise Line informed guests that the Carnival Spirit is set to undergo further in-service repair work during its April 12, 2026, voyage.
According to a statement issued by the company, the required maintenance led to changes in the ship’s itinerary, including a later than scheduled departure.
As part of its repositioning voyage to Seattle, the vessel welcomed guests in Mobile for a 16-night Panama Canal cruise.
The itinerary originally included visits to Cartagena de Indias in Colombia, as well as Puntarenas in Costa Rica and Cabo San Lucas in Mexico.
“Our engineers need to conduct in-service repair work on the ship before we begin our journey to Seattle,” Carnival said in its statement.
“The work, which does not affect shipboard services, can only be completed while the vessel is docked and will require extended time in port,” the company added.
As a result, the Carnival Spirit sailed from Mobile midafternoon on April 13, which led to the cancellation of its planned visit to Cartagena.
Carnival said that the change was necessary given the strict timeline for the ship’s transit of the Panama Canal. The rest of the cruise remains the same, the company continued.
“As a gesture of our appreciation for your understanding, we will post a $100 per stateroom onboard credit to your onboard account,” Carnival added in its letter to guests.
The company noted that shore excursions for Cartagena were cancelled and refunded to their original forms of payment.
Earlier this month, Carnival adjusted a previous itinerary of the Spirit due to similar in-service maintenance work. At the time, the vessel missed a Bimini.
Joining the Carnival Miracle and the Carnival Luminosa, the Spirit will be one of the company’s three ships in Alaska this year.
Sailing from Seattle, the vessel is set to offer a series of seven-night cruises to destinations that include Skagway, Juneau, Ketchikan, Victoria and more.
