Flynn Cruiseport Boston is set to start its 2026 season, welcoming 23 cruise brands and nine homeport vessels from April through November, including the largest ship ever to homeport in Boston, the Norwegian Breakaway, the Massachusetts Port Authority said in a press release.
Massport is also installing a new passenger bridge to streamline the boarding and disembarkation process.
“Flynn Cruiseport is poised for another outstanding season as New England’s premier homeport,” said Rich Davey, chief executive officer of Massport.
“Cruise lines are investing in larger, more modern ships in Boston as demand continues to grow and these upgrades ensure we are ready.”
Massport has committed $100 million toward upgrades at Flynn Cruiseport, including expanding the waiting area with increased seating capacity and restrooms, streamlining security check-in and installing a new escalator.
The Norwegian Breakaway, which has a capacity of nearly 4,000 passengers, will begin its homeport season on April 14 and run through Nov. 8.
Boston will also welcome three other ships with capacities over 4,000 passengers for port-of-call stops including the Norwegian Escape, the MSC Meraviglia and Royal Caribbean’s the Independence of the Seas.
Massport has announced a plan to bring ship-to-shore power to the Cruiseport by 2030, as nearly 80 percent of the ships that currently serve Boston can plug into shore power or use alternative low-carbon technology.
