The Port of Tampa Bay is a planning a new cruise ship terminal, according to a report by Spectrum News.
The local news source said that the new terminal would prepare the port for future growth after welcoming over 1.6 million guests in 2025.
While the Port of Tampa Bay works on a new master plan for 2030, few details of the proposed new cruise terminal are known at press time.
As part of the plan, port officials are also proposing the construction of new warehouses and the expansion of container terminals.
Spectrum News said that the authorities are working with stakeholders to ensure these changes are balanced with the residential population of downtown Tampa.
“For us, it’s playing, maintaining the maritime industry, protecting it, allowing it to grow, prosper and integrating ourselves with our future plans and the growth of the region, the city of Tampa,” Port Tampa Bay Executive Vice President and Chief Commercial Officer Raul Alfonso was quoted as saying.
In 2028, the port is also planning to invest $1.2 billion in a future project that will deepen its navigation channel by four feet.
One of the main cruise ports for ships in Florida, Tampa Bay serves as year-round base for a range of cruise lines, including Carnival, Margaritaville and Royal Caribbean.
The homeport also welcomes seasonal operations from other brands, such as Celebrity and Norwegian.
