The Marine Hotel Association (MHA) announced dates for its 2026 culinary scholarship program at the Culinary Institute of America’s Singapore campus, running June 15 to 19.

The announcement was made at the MHA’s 41th anniversary conference and trade show in Naples, Florida, which wrapped up earlier this week.

“We’re excited to be offering this amazing opportunity to our members, just one of the great initiatives the MHA brings to our industry,” said John McGirl, chair of the MHA Scholarship Foundation and chief people officer at Starboard Cruise Services.

The five-day program offers cruise line chefs hands-on professional development focused on leadership capabilities, problem-solving techniques and operational management skills in high-pressure culinary environments, according to the association.

MHA member cruise lines can nominate top culinary talent for the scholarship placement.

Ideal candidates should already hold supervisory or managerial roles onboard and demonstrate potential to progress toward chef de cuisine or executive chef positions.

The curriculum is designed to provide participants with in-depth knowledge and practical skills applicable to the cruise culinary environment, with a focus on refining leadership styles and operational management.

The Singapore venue was chosen to ensure greater accessibility for Asian-based culinary professionals.

The MHA plans to offer two scholarship programs annually, alternating between the CIA’s Hyde Park campus in New York and the Singapore campus.
