Royal Caribbean International presented the Chief Dog Officer for its upcoming Icon-class ship, the Legend of the Seas.

According to a social media update shared by the company’s President and CEO Michael Bayley, Skipper will continue a tradition that started with the Icon of the Seas.

The 2023-built vessel was the first to introduce the position, which is described as a “family dog” for guests and crew onboard.

Born in early February, Skipper is a Golden Retriever and recently met the company’s team at its headquarters in Miami.

The dog is set to board the Legend of the Seas for its maiden season, which is scheduled to start in Europe this summer.

Skipper joins Sailor, which joined the Icon of the Seas in 2024.

Bayley previously explained that the Chief Dog Officer program is conducted in partnership with the American Humane Society, which is said to ensure top-tier care and training for the pets.

According to Royal Caribbean, the initiative aims to bring joy to guests and crew while enjoying playtime with the dogs.

Currently in the final stages of construction at the Meyer Turku shipyard in Finland, the Legend of the Seas is scheduled to welcome its first guests on July 4, 2026.

As part of its inaugural season, the LNG-powered vessel is set to offer summer cruises in the Western Mediterranean that sail to Italy, Spain and France.

In November, the 5,610-passenger ship repositions to Fort Lauderdale for a winter season sailing out of Port Everglades.

The vessel’s schedule includes a series of six- to eight-night cruises to the Southern, Western and Eastern Caribbean.

The deployment is highlighted by regular visits to Royal Caribbean’s private island in the Bahamas, Perfect Day at CocoCay.

Following the Legend, the company is set to take delivery of additional Icon-class ships in 2027 and 2028.
