Carnival Cruise Line cancelled a sailing onboard the Carnival Splendor that was set to take place on October 12, 2027.

According to a statement sent to booked guests, the cruise is no longer going ahead due to a full-ship charter.

Sailing roundtrip from Sydney, the 3,000-passenger ship was set to offer a ten-night Carnival Journeys cruise to New Zealand.

After departing from Australia, the itinerary included visits to Napier, Tauranga, Auckland and Bay of Islands, in addition to five days at sea.

“We have a variety of alternatives and are confident you will find another Carnival cruise that is filled with an equal amount of fun,” Carnival added.

The company is offering affected passengers two options: rebooking a comparable sailing or receiving a full refund.

When rebooking, guests will take advantage of a protected cruise rate on a comparable sailing in similar accommodation.

In this case, Carnival is also offering a 100 Australian dollars onboard credit per stateroom, which will be credited to passengers’ onboard accounts.

Guests who do not wish to reschedule will automatically receive a full refund of the cruise fare and any pre-purchased items to their original form of payment.

One of Carnival’s Australia-based ships, the Carnival Splendor, sails from Sydney on a year-round basis.

In addition to itineraries to New Zealand, the 2008-built vessel also offers cruises to destinations in Queensland, the South Pacific, the Great Barrier Reef and more.

After being transferred from P&O Australia in early 2025, the Carnival Adventure and the Carnival Encounter also offer year-round cruising in Australia.

The vessels sail from Sydney and Brisbane, respectively, for a series of itineraries to a range of destinations, including Vanuatu, New Caledonia and more.

A fourth ship, the Carnival Luminosa, offers seasonal cruises out of Brisbane in between its summer programs in Alaska.
