Holland America Line is partnering with Jefferson’s Bourbon to age whiskey at sea across its fleet, the cruise line said in a press release.

Announced on International Whiskey Day, March 27, this marks the distillery’s first partnership with a cruise line for its Ocean Aged at Sea Bourbon series, following 35 bottled voyages on cargo and fishing vessels.

Starting this month, Jefferson’s began loading one barrel aboard each Holland America Line ship, with all 11 ships to carry their own exclusive barrel by the end of April 2026.

Each barrel will sail for a minimum of six months, with the sea, rolling motion and other natural elements shaping the bourbon’s flavor, depth, character and finish.

“This partnership with Jefferson’s Bourbon is another way we’re setting ourselves apart through experiences that are too good to hurry through,” said Drew Foulk, director of food and beverage revenue and innovation at Holland America Line.

“Aging bourbon aboard our ships and offering it exclusively back to guests later reflects our commitment to beverage programs that are shaped by the journey itself.”

Azamara recently announced a similar concept, called the Bourbon Quest, in partnership with Milam & Greene Whiskey.

Each limited-edition barrel forming part of Holland America’s partnership with the distillery will create approximately 150 to 300 bottles that will be delivered back to the ships for guests to taste in 2027, the cruise line stated.

“We are thrilled to partner with Holland America Line to embark on a truly unique adventure. By placing Jefferson’s Ocean barrels on their cruise ships, we’re diving into a quest to see how different routes and voyages (meaning different climates and agitation) influence the taste, smell, and mouthfeel of our whiskey,” said Trey Zoeller, founder of Jefferson’s Bourbon.

Expanding Holland America’s Single Barrel Program, the partnership is the latest addition to the cruise line’s program celebrating America’s 250th anniversary.

In addition to various brand collaborations to celebrate the anniversary, Holland America will offer a commemorative Stars and Stripes cruise departing Boston, Massachusetts, on July 4, 2026.
