Oriental Land Co. recently established a new subsidiary to manage its cruise business in Japan, which will be launched in partnership with Disney Cruise Line.
The Japan-based entertainment company is currently building a Wish-class vessel at the Meyer Werft shipyard in Germany.
According to a press release, Oriental Land Cruise Co. was announced during a board meeting on March 24, 2026.
The company said that the wholly owned subsidiary will accelerate the commercialization of its cruise product while managing and operating its future vessels “in a specialized and agile manner.”
With an initial capital of 450 million Japanese Yen (approximately $2.82 million), the new company will be led by Ryotaro Shiiba, who will serve as representative director and president.
Oriental Land Co. said that the subsidiary will be responsible for the management and operation of its Japan-based cruises, as well as the planning, development and marketing of cruise services.
The company added that the establishment of Oriental Land Cruise Co. is expected to be completed by early April and is projected to have minimal impact on its fiscal year.
Going forward, the new subsidiary will operate Japan-based cruises under the name Disney Cruise Line Japan.
The first ship of the new brand is currently being developed in collaboration with Disney Enterprises, the company added.
With a design based on the 2022-built Disney Wish, the new vessel will offer design elements, onboard entertainment and styling aimed at meeting the demands of the Japanese market.
Oriental Land Co. also stated that the yet-unnamed ship will introduce a “new type of experience, family entertainment cruises to the Japanese cruise market.”
With construction set to begin in 2026, the 2,500-passenger vessel is expected to launch service during the Japanese fiscal year of 2028.
