Carnival Corporation has announced a three‑year grant to Conservation International aiming to restore mangrove forests in the Caribbean.

These coastal forests buffer shorelines from storms, absorb carbon from the atmosphere, and sustain marine life and local livelihoods in the Caribbean, the company said in a press release.

Funding will come from programs like Holland America Line’s “On Deck for a Cause” 5K walks and Carnival Corporation’s “Keep the Change” that are available to guests during cruises.

The company also said it would announce additional supporting programs across its portfolio over time.

“The Caribbean’s warm and welcoming spirit is matched only by the breathtaking beauty of its natural environment, reminding us of our shared responsibility to safeguard these ecosystems for those who come after us,” said Josh Weinstein, CEO of Carnival Corporation.

“Working with Conservation International gives us a meaningful way to partner with communities in biodiverse coastal destinations. Together, we’re supporting local innovation and social impact while helping care for the natural wonders that make these destinations so beloved.”

With support from Carnival Corporation, Conservation International and its partners will help rehabilitate mangrove forests by supporting natural regeneration, strengthening research and monitoring, as well as deepening community engagement.

Furthermore, support will be provided to small and micro-enterprises in the Caribbean that depend on nature, including ecotourism operators, fishers and artisans.

As part of this, Conservation International and partners will provide technical assistance, training, mentoring and access to small grants to help entrepreneurs grow their businesses in a sustainable way.
