Silversea is adjusting the current itinerary of the Silver Ray due to what it called inclement weather in the North Atlantic.

According to a statement shared with guests onboard the vessel, the adverse conditions led to the cancellation of an overnight call in Madeira.

“We have been monitoring some inclement weather developing in the region,” the company said in the letter signed by the ship’s master, Giovanni Schiaffino.

“Considering this, in the interest of your safety and comfort, we will no longer call at Funchal,” the text continued.

The Silver Ray was scheduled to make a two-day visit to the Portuguese destination starting on March 21, 2026.

Instead, the LNG-powered vessel will now make an eight-hour visit to the port of Leixões on March 23, 2026. Located in Northern Portugal, the destination serves as a getaway to the city of Porto.

“This adjustment has been made only after careful review of the forecasted conditions and with your well-being first and foremost,” Silversea added.

Having sailed from Fort Lauderdale on March 10, 2026, the Silver Ray is currently offering a trans-Atlantic crossing to Europe.

In addition to the two-day call to Funchal, the cruise’s original 14-night itinerary also included an overnight visit to King’s Wharf in Bermuda.

Kicking off its summer season in the region, the 728-passenger ship is set to end the repositioning voyage in Lisbon, Portugal, on March 24, 2026.

Through late November, the Silver Ray offers a series of itineraries to destinations in the Mediterranean and the Atlantic departing from ports in Monaco, Italy, Spain and more.

A second ship was also affected by adverse weather conditions in the North Atlantic this week, the Renaissance.

Offering a trans-Atlantic crossing from the Caribbean, the Ambassador Group ship had to cancel a scheduled visit to the Azores.

Instead of docking in Ponta Delgada as planned on March 19, 2026, the vessel sailed directly to its next port of call.
