Las Palmas Cruise Port, said to be the largest cruise terminal in Europe, has been inaugurated in Gran Canaria, its operator Global Ports Holding (GPH) stated in a press release.
Developed in partnership with local partner Sepcan, the terminal building covers 14,000 square meters distributed across two levels.
Featuring three boarding bridges, it has the operational capacity to accommodate up to four cruise ships simultaneously.
Francesc Grau, regional director West Med, Global Ports Holding, commented: “The opening of the new cruise terminal marks an important milestone for Las Palmas de Gran Canaria and further strengthens its position as a key cruise hub in the Atlantic.”
The terminal is part of a €40 million investment plan aimed at modernizing cruise terminals in Gran Canaria, Fuerteventura and Lanzarote.
The inauguration ceremony was hosted as a mid-afternoon cocktail reception at the terminal, according to the press release.
President of the Port Authority of Las Palmas Beatriz Calzada said that the terminal’s inauguration confirms that the Port of Las Palmas is ready to continue growing and offering top-quality services.
“We strongly believe in the long-term potential of the Canary Islands as one of the leading cruise destinations in the Atlantic,” added Mehmet Kutman, chairman, Global Ports Holding.
“Las Palmas holds a strategic position within global cruise itineraries, and this new terminal represents an important step in further strengthening the destination’s role within the international cruise market.
Following the opening, the new terminal will host Seatrade Cruise Med this September.
