The Renaissance is dropping a planned visit to Ponta Delgada in the Azores due to forecast adverse weather conditions in the region.
Offering a trans-Atlantic crossing that started in Barbados, the 1993-built ship was set to visit the Portuguese archipelago on March 19, 2026.
According to an update shared by Ambassador Cruise Line, the Azores is expected to be affected by a low-pressure system this week.
The company said that the weather phenomenon will bring “significant sea conditions, including waves of up to 10 meters and winds exceeding 50 knots” to the region.
“With these conditions forecast around the time of the Renaissance’s scheduled arrival, safe maneuvering and entry into port would not be possible,” Ambassador continued.
Instead of visiting Ponta Delgada as scheduled, the ship will now proceed directly to its next port of call, Leixões.
Ambassador said that the vessel will remain on the edge of the system and adjust course to route around the weather, arriving at the Portuguese destination as planned on March 22, 2026.
“The safety and wellbeing of our guests and crew is always our primary consideration,” the company continued.
“We apologize for any disappointment or inconvenience this change may cause and would like to thank guests and crew for their understanding.”
The Renaissance is currently operating a 17-night repositioning voyage that will end in Tilbury on March 26, 2026.
Concluding its first winter season in the Caribbean, the 1,258-passenger ship sailed from Bridgetown earlier this month.
In addition to the Azores, the vessel was originally scheduled to visit St. Lucia, Antigua, St. Kitts, Portugal and the Netherlands before arriving in the United Kingdom.
During the upcoming summer season, the Renaissance is scheduled to serve the French market with a series of cruises departing from the ports of Dunkirk and Marseille.
