The Galveston Wharves will hold an open house to share highlights, answer questions and get public input on the port’s new 20-Year Strategic Master Plan.
According to a press release, the event will take place on March 25, 2026, between 4:00 PM and 6:00 PM at Cruise Terminal 16, 1602 Harborside Drive. A brief presentation of the plan will also be made at 4:30 PM.
The Galveston Wharves stated that port staff members will man stations with displays and be available to answer questions and discuss how the plan will guide cruise, cargo and commercial growth at the port.
The port authority will also provide refreshments and free parking in the terminal parking garage for the event.
Luis Ajamil, principal of Bermello, Ajamil & Partners (BA), will provide an overview of the master plan and the process used to develop it.
The Galveston Wharves noted that BA is a leading port planning and cruise design firm, which developed the port’s new master plan, as well as the port’s first master plan back in 2019.
The new plan was adopted in February by the port’s Board of Trustees, following a year of research and public input.
“As with the 2019 plan, the strategy for port improvements is based on market research, industry forecasts, port business goals, and community input,” said Rodger Rees, Galveston Wharves port director and CEO.
“The strategic plan balances business sector, infrastructure, financial and community needs. We look forward to sharing details of this vision for port growth with the community,” he added.
Among the highlights of the 20-year strategic master plan is a proposed new commercial area on the east end of the Port of Galveston.
A major player in the cruise industry, the port is expected to welcome 445 sailings and 3.9 million passengers in 2026.
