Hapag-Lloyd has launched its 2026 Amazon season with the Hanseatic Spirit departing Belém this week on an 18-day upstream expedition along the river.
The company has sailed this approximately 4,000 km (2,385 mi.) journey deep into the heart of the Amazon for nearly 30 years.
Two voyages, one upstream and one downstream are offered each year, making them among the most sought-after expeditions in the company’s program, according to a press release.
“The Amazon is one of the most captivating natural and cultural regions on earth,” said Isolde Susset, managing director of Hapag-Lloyd Cruises. “Our expeditions allow guests to experience the river intensively while respecting the region’s ecosystems and communities.”
Guests explore the rainforest, go on excursions and meet with riverside communities from villages along the Amazon that are accessible only by water.
The Hanseatic Inspiration will sail the 18-day itineraries again in 2027 and 2028, with limited availability already remaining, the company said.
