Guests from Holland America Line’s two 2026 Grand Voyages united in Sydney, Australia, on Saturday, March 7.
Together with captains and senior officers from the Zaandam and Volendam, guests gathered for an event called Chocolate Afternoon Tea aboard the Zaandam.
The meeting coincided with the ships’ overlapping call, creating what Holland says is a rare opportunity for guests sailing on different Grand Voyages to come together in one place.
“Moments like this are what make a Grand Voyage truly unforgettable. When guests sail with us for months at a time, they become a community,” said Darren Lewis, Zaandam’s hotel general manager.
“Seeing that community from two ships come together in Sydney to share stories, celebrate the journey and enjoy a beautifully crafted afternoon tea was a powerful reminder of what makes Grand Voyages so special.”
According to a statement, the event was led by Holland America Line Culinary Ambassador Jacques Torres, who created a menu of signature chocolate creations for the occasion.
The Volendam, which is currently sailing on the 133-day Grand World Voyage, reached the Pitcairn Islands on day 46 of the voyage in early January.
As for the Zaandam, its 93-day Grand Voyage sailing roundtrip from San Diego, California, exploring Australia, New Zealand and French Polynesia, started in late January.
