Star Clippers has promoted Vadim Novikov to Captain of the Star Flyer, which the company says makes the 36-year-old officer the youngest commanding officer in its history.
This comes eleven years after Novikov joined the fleet as a deck cadet.
“With Vadim’s dedication, experience and natural leadership, we’re proud to see him take command of Star Flyer,” noted Terri Haas, Vice President Sales & Marketing. “His story reflects the spirit of Star Clippers — where passion for the sea and commitment to excellence creates lifelong careers.”
According to a press release, Captain Novikov’s promotion represents a broader commitment by Star Clippers to preserving the traditions of tall-ship sailing while investing in the future of maritime professionals.
Captain Novikov has been onboard since childhood, as his father served as captain of training vessel called the Kruzenshtern.
He studied at Kaliningrad Maritime University.
“Tall ships have always felt like home to me,” said Capt. Novikov. “When I first saw Star Flyer, I realized there was a way to combine authentic sailing with guest experiences, and that immediately inspired me to be part of this company.”
