Academy Award-winning actor Robert Downey Jr. has been named godparent fo the Disney Adventure, the company said in a statement.

“Our new ship continues Disney Cruise Line’s tradition of bringing great stories to life at sea, and we are honored that Robert Downey Jr., who has guided audiences through unforgettable Marvel stories, is the official godparent for the Disney Adventure,” said Josh D’Amaro, chairman, Disney Experiences and incoming chief executive officer of The Walt Disney Company.

In a video shared on YouTube, Downey says the biggest ship in Disney’s fleet needs a massive, gargantuan blessing to match, noting that it was an honor and a privilege to accept the invitation to be its godparent.

Downey, who was named an official Disney Legend in 2019, plays Tony Stark/Iron Man, one of the characters in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and the Disney Adventure’s seven themed areas will feature several Marvel experiences.

At Marvel Landing on the top decks, guests can have the Super Hero adventure on Tony Stark’s Ironcycle Test Run, said to be the first roller coaster on a Disney Cruise Line ship and the longest of its kind at sea.

In the open-air Disney Imagination Garden area, the “Avengers Assemble!” live stage production will feature stunts and special effects during a battle of Marvel Super Heroes and Villains.

Inside Disney’s Oceaneer Club, the Marvel WEB Workshop will give young guests a chance to try out new Super Hero suit prototypes and conduct training simulations using top-secret Avengers technology.

This follows the ship’s arrival at the Port of Los Angeles at the start of February as part of its voyage from Germany to Singapore that is set to take two months.
