China’s Beihai Shipbuilding has officially delivered the Lucayan, a large floating drydock, for its new owner: Grand Bahama Shipyard.
The drydock will now be transported to the Bahamas and is expected to be ready for cruise ships later this year.
The formal signing and delivery ceremony took place on February 6 in Qingdao, a project jointly undertaken by CSSC Qingdao Beihai Shipbuilding and China Shipbuilding Industry Trade Co., Ltd..
This delivery is not an isolated achievement but part of a strategic dual-dock project commissioned by Grand Bahama Shipyard, which has ownership interest from Carnival Corporation, Royal Caribbean Group and MSC.
The Lucayan has a total length of 413.96 meters and a width of 85.11 meters, it ranks among the world’s largest floating docks by lifting capacity. Certified by Lloyd’s Register, it incorporates cutting-edge technology, including a fully automated dock control system, intelligent ballast systems, and digital twin technology, enabling “one-click” submersion and lifting operations with accuracy and safety.
The drydock’s specifications are meticulously designed to accommodate the maintenance, modification, and repair needs of all current ultra-large cruise ships, including Icon-class vessels.
The Lucayan has a sister dock, the 93,500-ton East End, which was delivered earlier and commenced commercial operations in the Bahamas in January 2026.
