The Port of Dover has awarded the Viking Sky the 2026 Safety and Environment Awareness Award, recognizing the ship’s environmental performance while in port.
The Viking Saturn and Fred. Olsen’s Borealis also scored hihly in the ninth annual SEA Award program, according to the port.
The award evaluates cruise ships’ operational footprint in port, with a focus on recycling levels compared to category 1 waste, CO2 emissions per nautical mile and safety procedures.
“We are proud that the Port of Dover is shaping a more sustainable future for the maritime industry,” said Megan Turner, environment and sustainability manager at the Port of Dover.
“The SEA Award is an important example of how we are empowering our partners and customers to come on this journey with us, so that together, we can create a healthier and more resilient climate for our seas.”
The SEA Award is part of the Port of Dover’s target of carbon net zero.
A dedicated team at the port is leading efforts to decarbonize the world’s busiest maritime corridor, which supports the UK’s drive to net zero shipping by 2050, the port said.
Port experts often join cruise ships when in port to advise on processes and efficiencies that create safe and sustainable operations.
