Carnival Cruise Line is informing guests of a delay for the Carnival Sunshine cruise that was scheduled to depart from Norfolk on Saturday.

According to a statement issued by the company, the ship will arrive at its homeport one day later than scheduled due to adverse weather conditions.

“This advisory requires your immediate attention as we work to keep you informed about your cruise,” the company said in the letter issued on Friday, Feb. 6, 2026.

“Due to the unfavorable weather that will be affecting the area, the Port of Norfolk will be closed on Saturday, Feb. 7, 2026, and the ship will be delayed returning from the current voyage,” Carnival continued.

The company explained that the Carnival Sunshine is now expected to arrive “sometime on February 8, forcing a shortening of the upcoming cruise.”

Sailing roundtrip from Norfolk, the ship was scheduled to offer an eight-night itinerary to the Bahamas and the Caribbean. The cruise initially included visits to Half Moon Cay, Grand Turk and Amber Cove.

“Since forecasts can change, we’ll continue to monitor the situation and provide timely updates,” Carnival added.

Guests were encouraged to closely monitor their emails and sign up for the company’s text alert system by texting code CCL5 to CRUISE (278473).

The company also advised passengers not to proceed to the cruise terminal until receiving a final operational update.

“Related to our itinerary, since we’ll be sailing a day later than originally planned, there will be an impact to our voyage plan,” Carnival added.

The company stated that it is currently reviewing available options and will provide more details to guests soon.

Given the shortened duration of the sailing, Carnival is also issuing a one-day, pro-rated refund for the paid cruise fare.

The refund will be credited to the original form of payment within three weeks and will also include an equivalent refund for any pre-purchased onboard package, as well as pre-paid gratuities.

“We are sorry the weather is interrupting your vacation plans and thank you for your patience and understanding,” Carnival added.
