The Norwegian Breakaway returned to New York City one day earlier than scheduled due to a winter weather system.

Wrapping up an 11-night cruise to the Caribbean, the Norwegian Cruise Line ship is now set to dock at the Manhattan Cruise Terminal on Monday, Feb. 2, 2026.

According to a letter sent to guests onboard, the itinerary was changed to ensure a smoother return to the U.S. Northeast.

“As we continue our journey north onboard the Norwegian Breakaway, we want to keep you fully informed about a change,” the statement reads.

“A large winter system moving through the eastern United States and the North Atlantic is affecting our ability to return to New York City on the original schedule and is making it challenging to maintain the speed needed for our planned turnaround,” Norwegian continued.

As a result, the company decided to cancel a call to St. Thomas that was scheduled to take place on Friday, Jan. 30, 2026.

Instead, the Norwegian Breakaway headed straight to New York City after a planned visit to St. Maarten that took place on Jan. 29, 2026.

“This adjustment helps us on a smoother path north. While this isn’t the itinerary we originally planned, it does mean you’ll enjoy extra time in New York City, including an overnight stay,” the company added.

Norwegian noted that the extended time in the homeport will offer guests a chance to “wrap up their vacation on a high note.”

Shore excursions for St. Thomas booked through Norwegian were cancelled while full refunds were credited to the guests’ accounts, the company noted.

The Norwegian Breakaway departed from New York City on Jan. 23, 2026, for an 11-night cruise to the Caribbean.

In addition to St. Maarten, the itinerary included visits to Puerto Plata in the Dominican Republic, San Juan in Puerto Rico and Tortola in the British Virgin Islands.
