The MSC Meraviglia delayed its departure from New York City due to bad weather in the region, according to a statement.
Kicking off a cruise to the Bahamas and Florida, the MSC Cruises vessel was originally set to leave the Brooklyn Cruise Terminal on Sunday, Feb. 1, 2026.
The seven-night itinerary included visits to Nassau and Port Canaveral, as well as Ocean Cay MSC Marine Reserve.
In a statement shared with guests onboard, the MSC Meraviglia’s Captain Maurizio Ruggiero said that his team decided to delay the ship’s departure to the morning of Monday, Feb. 2, 2026.
The change was necessary due to the projected weather conditions along the vessel’s path, Ruggiero noted, adding that the update ensures the safety and comfort of all guests and crew.
“Due to these weather-related changes and our delayed departure from New York, we’ll now arrive in Port Canaveral on Wednesday, Feb. 4, instead of Tuesday, Feb. 3, 2026,” he added.
“We can therefore offer you an extended stay in Port Canaveral, allowing more time to enjoy what this destination has to offer,” Ruggiero continued.
Shore excursions for the destination through MSC will be automatically adjusted to reflect the changes, the statement added.
“Regrettably, we must cancel our scheduled call to Ocean Cay. This decision was made with your safety and comfort as our top priority,” Ruggiero added.
The MSC Meraviglia was initially scheduled to visit MSC’s private island destination on Wednesday, Feb. 4, 2026.
“We understand that any unexpected changes to your itinerary can be disappointing, and we want to assure you that this decision was made with your safety as our top priority,” the statement continued.
“Although this adjustment is due to circumstances beyond our control, we want to express our sincere appreciation for your understanding and patience,” Ruggiero said.
MSC shore excursions for Ocean Cay will be cancelled and automatically refunded to the guests’ onboard accounts.
