Carnival Cruise Line’s Weather Contributor Amy Sweezey shared an update about potential impacts of adverse weather on the company’s operations in the next few days.

“Another potentially significant winter storm is developing and forecasted to bring strong winds, snow and bitterly cold temperatures from New England, all the way down to the Carolinas,” she said.

Current forecasts show that even Florida may experience snow, Sweezey added, noting that conditions are changing rapidly.

“Carnival’s Fleet Operations Center in Miami, along with our onboard teams, have been closely monitoring the evolving weather situation to ensure guests safety remains a top priority,” she continued.

Sweezey said that, with that in mind, the company decided to bring the Carnival Sunshine back to Norfolk one day ahead than scheduled.

The ship will return on Saturday, Jan. 31, 2026, in order to arrive before the storm fully intensifies, she explained.

“Even though the Sunshine is returning on Saturday morning, guests do have the option to remain onboard until Sunday morning, while the ship is in port,” Sweezey said.

“In addition, the Carnival Pride is closely monitoring the storm. Guests in Baltimore left behind cold and ice hoping for warmer weather in the Bahamas but, as it’s typical this time of the year, more winter cold is blanketing the area while they are away,” she continued.

To allow for a safe return ahead of this next storm, the vessel visited Celebration Key instead of Princess Cays.

The change was said to give the Carnival Pride additional time to head back to its homeport before conditions worsen.

“If you are sailing right now, be sure to listen to onboard announcements. If you are embarking soon, keep an eye on emails and text messages for further updates,” Sweezey said.

“Thank you for staying flexible and understanding that our team at Carnival is always keeping your safety in mind.”
