Norwegian Cruise Line will make a return to South America and Antarctica during the 2027-28 winter season.

According to the company’s website, the Norwegian Star will be in the region between December 2027 and March 2028.

Ending a two-year hiatus, the 2002-built vessel will offer a series of 15-night cruises departing from Buenos Aires in Argentina and San Antonio in Chile.

The itineraries are highlighted by scenic cruising near Antarctica’s Elephant Island, as well as visits to ports in Patagonia and Tierra del Fuego, such as Puerto Montt, Ushuaia and Puerto Madryn.

The Norwegian Star is also scheduled to sail to Montevideo in Uruguay and Port Stanley in the Falkland Islands.

In addition to regular itineraries in South America, the ship is set to offer trans-Atlantic crossings to and from Europe.

The 15-night repositioning voyages sail between Buenos Aires and Lisbon in Portugal, visiting ports of call in Brazil and Cape Verde, such as Recife, Rio de Janeiro and Mindelo.

Norwegian last offered a season in South America during the 2024-25 winter, with a series of cruises onboard the Norwegian Star.

While the ship was initially scheduled to return to the region for a fourth season in 2025-26, the plans were scrapped in late 2024.

At the time, Norwegian cancelled its itineraries in the region due to what it called a fleet redeployment initiative.

The Norwegian Star was later repositioned in the Caribbean, offering a series of four- to 12-night cruises departing from Tampa.

While regular itineraries in South America were cancelled, Norwegian is set to offer two cruises to the continent’s Pacific Coast in 2025-26.

Sailing from PortMiami, the Norwegian Jade will offer a 12-night itinerary to the port of Callao in late February 2026.

Set to be followed by a repositioning voyage to San Diego, the cruise features visits to destinations in Colombia, Panama and Ecuador.
