Royal Caribbean International shortened the current cruise of the Harmony of the Seas to avoid bad weather in Southeast Texas.

According to a statement shared with guests onboard, the Oasis-class ship is now set to return to its homeport in Galveston on Saturday, Jan. 24, 2026, instead of Sunday, Jan. 25, 2026.

“We are tracking the development of a major winter storm expected to impact Southeast Texas beginning late Saturday,” Royal Caribbean explained.

“In order to give you the best chance at a safe and uninterrupted journey home by avoiding the winter weather impacts on local infrastructure and transportation, we have decided to arrive in Galveston one day earlier than originally scheduled,” the company continued.

Currently offering a cruise to the Western Caribbean, the Harmony of the Seas sailed from its Texas homeport on Jan. 18, 2025.

The seven-night itinerary initially featured visits to Roatan in Honduras, as well as Cozumel and Costa Maya in Mexico.

“As a result (of the earlier return), we will have to skip our visit to Cozumel and head straight to Galveston,” Royal Caribbean added.

Guests will be able to disembark shortly after the ship arrives back in its homeport at around 11 p.m. on Jan. 24, 2026.

Royal Caribbean added that those who are unable to make accommodations to depart the ship earlier, or prefer to remain onboard, will be able to do so.

The company stated that shops and the casino will be closed during the overnight stay in Galveston and noted that passengers will need to leave the ship before returning.

“Due to Customs and Border Protection requirements, all guests extending their stays will be asked to debark their ship with their travel documents in hand and reboard once the ship has been fully debarked,” Royal Caribbean explained.

Any prepaid shore excursions for Cozumel will be reimbursed while loyalty points will be applied considering the cruise’s original length.

“To make up for this last-minute change, and to assist you on your safe journey home, we’ll provide you with a refund of one day of your paid cruise fare as an onboard credit,” the company said.

The onboard credit can be used anywhere onboard, Royal Caribbean added, while any remaining refundable amounts will be refunded up to 14 business days from final disembarkation.

“We’re terribly sorry for the last-minute change caused by weather – your safety is our top priority,” the company said.
