The Brazilian port of Recife welcomed Holland America Line’s Volendam for a transit call earlier this month.
According to local authorities, the vessel brought over 900 guests to the port on Wednesday, January 15, 2026.
Offering Holland America’s 2026 Grand World Voyage, the Volendam was the first ship to visit Recife this year.
Guests were welcomed by a special reception event that included cultural presentations with frevo music, as well as a crafts fair and a local beverage tasting.
“We have so far welcomed more than 7,000 visitors this season, including passengers and crew members,” said Recife Port Managing Director Paulo Nery.
“We still have ten ships scheduled to arrive in Pernambuco, and our expectation is to welcome over 20,000 visitors by the end of the season in April,” he added.
“All this activity has a direct impact on our economy, tourism, job creation and the visibility of our state. We are prepared to receive these vessels with efficiency and pride, reaffirming the commitment of the Port of Recife to the development of Pernambuco.”
With its season running through early April, the port is set to welcome ten additional ships over the next few months.
Ships having already called include vessels from Silversea, Costa Cruises, Viking and P&O Cruises.
The port is now getting ready to welcome ships that include the AIDAmar, Phoenix Reisen’s Artania and the Seven Seas Splendor.
After sailing from Fort Lauderdale earlier this year, the Volendam is offering a 133-day world cruise that features visits to over 51 destinations.
Before returning to Florida in mid-May, the 1999-built ship is also scheduled to sail to 23 countries and five continents.
In addition to Recife, the vessel is set to visit other destinations in Brazil and South America, such as Rio de Janeiro and Buenos Aires.
