Ambassador Cruise Line’s Ambition spent an additional night docked at the port of Lisbon due to bad weather conditions in the Atlantic.
According to an update shared by the company, the vessel remained docked at the Portuguese port on Jan. 16, 2026.
“We are sorry to announce the forecasted weather for the Ambition’s passage to Funchal is predicted to be severe, with waves in excess of 5 meters,” Ambassador Cruise Line said.
After departing from Tilbury on Jan. 12, 2026, the 1999-built vessel is currently offering a 23-night cruise to Spain, Portugal and Morocco.
The original itinerary featured visits to 14 destinations in the region, including an overnight visit to Madeira Island’s Funchal.
Due to the adjusted departure from Lisbon, the longer visit to the destination will have to be modified, Ambassador said.
“Regrettably, this means the Ambition’s overnight stay in Funchal will become a single-day call on Monday, January 19, 2026,” the company explained.
“We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause. Your comfort and safety are always our first priority, and so we have rescheduled our port calls so that we can avoid the worst of this weather,” Ambassador added.
After departing from Funchal, the Ambition is scheduled to make visits to Santa Cruz de La Palma and Santa Cruz de Tenerife in the Canaries.
The 1,358-guest ship then sails to three additional destinations in the Spanish archipelago: Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, Arrecife de Lanzarote and Puerto del Rosario.
Before returning to Tilbury, the ship is also scheduled to sail to Casablanca and Tangier in Morocco; Málaga, Cádiz and Vigo in Spain; and Gibraltar in the UK.
In related news, Ambassador’s Ambience is currently undergoing a three-week drydock refurbishment in the United Kingdom.
The multi-million-dollar refurbishment will include technical work, as well as improvements to public areas and staterooms.
