The Birka Gotland has completed its first full calendar year in service, with roughly 570,000 travelers cruising with the company in 2025.

The company said this meant an increase of 30 percent compared to 2024, when the ship operated for only three quarters of the year.

“It has been an eventful second year for Birka Gotland with attractive destinations and new experiences onboard,” said Kenneth Gustavsson, CEO of Gotland Alandia Cruises.

“We have launched completely new concepts with Pelle Svanslös, Soul Train, Swedish star artists and the collaboration with the well-known chef Danyel Couet,” he added.

“The response from our guests has been very positive, which is also clearly visible in the customer satisfaction measurements. We now have strong conditions to continue developing cruise experiences for a wide Swedish audience.”

Adjusted for the same traffic period (March 20 to December 31), the increase is 9 percent (38,000 travelers).

The Birka Gotland, which departs from Stockholm, visited Mariehamn, Visby, Höga Kusten, Ystad, Bornholm and Riga in 2025.

According to the company, summer Visby cruises have increased by 12 percent compared to 2024.

The year has also been marked by a substantial increase in families with children, more weekend cruisers in the fall and a record level of interest in Christmas table cruises, with a 42 percent increase over 2024.

In total, the percentage of families with children increased by 25 percent during the summer, autumn and Christmas holidays in 2025 compared to 2024.
