Seven cruise ships are set to gather in Rio de Janeiro’s Copacabana for the town’s New Year’s Eve festivities.
Vessels from Costa Cruises, MSC Cruises and Plantours are set to anchor in front of the Brazilian beach for a firework display that will start at midnight on January 1, 2026.
The lineup includes some of the largest ships sailing in South America this season, which will bring over 18,000 guests and nearly 7,500 crew members.
Offering a seven-night cruise that departed from Santos, the 4,140-guest MSC Seaview will be the largest ship in Copacabana.
Four additional MSC ships will be on hand for the firework display: the MSC Sinfonia, the MSC Fantasia, the MSC Armonia and the MSC Preziosa.
While the MSC Fantasia is offering a cruise that departed from Argentina, the three other ships are operating cruises in Brazil.
Chartered to PromoAção Eventos, the Preziosa will sail to the beach as part of a four-night themed cruise that includes concerts by local artists and bands.
The Costa Favolosa will also join the festivities as part of an eight-night cruise that sailed from Buenos Aires, Argentina.
Plantours is another brand welcoming in 2026 in Copacabana with its sole ship, the 420-passenger Hamburg.
Offering a 23-night cruise that started in the Canary Islands, the vessel is set to spend two days docked in Rio after the firework display.
Before heading to Argentina and Uruguay, the 14,000-ton ship is set to visit additional destinations in Brazil, such as Maceió, Ilhéus and Salvador.
Madeira Island in Portugal is also welcoming a significant number of cruise ships for its New Year’s firework display.
A traditional gathering spot for vessels to welcome the new year, Funchal is hosting 12 vessels and over 22,000 passengers.
