Astro Ocean has wrapped up its maiden program from Malaysia as the Piano Land is on her way back to Hong Kong with 1,700 guests aboard, the company said in a statement.

The Malaysia program saw the ship sail 12 voyages and carry over 16,700 guests, sailing between Port Klang, Penang, Langkawi in Malaysia and Phuket, Thailand.

Astro Ocean said it was the first Chinese brand operating cruises from international homeports, and made a significant contribution to the economy in Malaysia.

The ship also sailed with certification from JAKIM, which is federally authorized to govern all domestic halal affairs in Malaysia, enabling the ship to offer a wide range of halal cuisine during her Malaysia-based deployment. Entertainment and service offerings were also tweaked for the local market, the company said.

The deployment was run in conjunction with Hwajing Travel & Tours.

The ship will arrive back in Hong Kong on Dec. 31 and will offer various itineraries ranging from four to 12 nights.
