The Queen Elizabeth is completing 15 years of service for Cunard after being delivered to the company on Sept. 29, 2010.
Introduced as a larger and updated version of the 2007-built Queen Victoria, the vessel was constructed at the Fincantieri shipyard in Monfalcone, Italy.
According to Cunard, the ship was designed to reflect the line’s century-long heritage but with a modern twist.
Highlights of the project include “elegant double- and triple-height public rooms on a grand scale,” the company said, as well as “intricately detailed interiors replete with rich wood paneling, mosaics, gleaming chandeliers and cool marbles.”
Serving as its godmother, Queen Elizabeth II named the vessel during a pier-side ceremony in Southampton on Oct. 11, 2010.
Over 1,600 international guests also attended the event, which also featured a concert by the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra and Chorus.
The Queen Elizabeth then entered service the next day, kicking off a maiden voyage to the Atlantic Islands from its homeport.
Sailing to Portugal and Spain, the 13-night voyage featured visits to Vigo, Lisbon, Cadiz, Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, Santa Cruz de Tenerife, Santa Cruz de La Palma and Funchal.
The vessel continued to sail from Cunard’s homeport in the United Kingdom during its inaugural season, offering cruises to the Mediterranean, the Adriatic, the Iberian Peninsula and Northern Europe.
In December 2010, the ship also embarked on a 22-night cruise to the Caribbean that featured visits to destinations in Dominica, St. Lucia, Antigua and more.
After debuting in Alaska in 2019, the Queen Elizabeth has been operating in North America in recent years.
In 2025, the ship offered another season in the Last Frontier before embarking on a repositioning cruise to Florida via the Panama Canal.
Sailing from PortMiami for the first time, the vessel is now set to offer a series of nine- to 12-night cruises to destinations in the Western, Eastern and Southern Caribbean.
Highlights of the deployment include visits to St. Thomas, St. Maarten, Barbados, Montego Bay, Belize City and Cozumel.
The ship was also drydocked earlier this year, getting a fresh look in public areas and enhanced features.
