Ryobi’s R Yacht Co. recently revealed the first details of its newbuild, which is set to be built at the West Sea shipyard in Viana do Castelo, Portugal.

According to a press release, the yacht-style cruise ship will be named the Sefu and is scheduled for delivery in time for summer 2027.

The Japan-based company stated that the chosen name comes from two Japanese words: Setouchi and wind.

“The name Sefu embodies our feelings for the wind, which has sometimes gently accompanied people and sometimes propelled them forward,” R Yacht stated.

The company added that carrying the name of the Setouchi company will help the ship bring prosperity and change to all parts of Japan.

The Sefu will feature interior design by Gwenael Nicolasof Tokyo-based Curiosity Co., as well as 60  staterooms.

According to the company, the 10,000-ton ship will have a service speed of approximately 15 knots, as well as a length of 120 meters and a width of 19 meters.

Roughly 100 crew members will offer personalized service for the ship’s 120 guests, who will sail i Japanese and international waters.

R Yacht also noted that Sefu’s itineraries will be highlighted by cruises to Setouchi and the Nansei Islands, visiting areas that can only be reached by small ships.

The vessel will be the first in Japan to feature a marina at its stern, offering water sports and allowing guests to embark on small boats for excursions to remote islands.

The onboard experience will be inspired by the regions of Japan, featuring collaboration with locals for what the company called “attentive, personalized service only possible on board a vessel with 60 cabins.”

Food and beverage will also feature local ingredients, while shore excursions will be highlighted by marine activities.

R Yacht revealed the logo that will be used on Sefu’s funnel, which was described as a “five-line motif inspired by a yacht-style hull.”

The logo is said to express the flow of the ocean and wind, as well as the connections between people and water ripples.

A teaser website is now online, with additional information about the Sefu and R Yacht’s onboard experience.
