Two cruise ships had to delay their arrivals to Tampa on Monday due to dense fog impacting inbound vessels at the port.

Returning to Tampa after cruises to the Caribbean, the Margaritaville at Sea Islander and the Carnival Paradise were initially set to dock early in the morning.

Margaritaville at Sea said in a statement that the Islander’s arrival was delayed by at least six hours due to the weather-related conditions.

The company asked guests to delay their arrivals in Tampa, noting that further updates will be issued as more information becomes available.

“We thank you for your patience and understanding as we adjust for weather-related conditions and prioritize the safety of all guests and crew,” Margaritaville at Sea stated.

In the early afternoon, the company said that the United States Coast Guard and the Port Tampa Bay Pilot Association confirmed that the fog was beginning to lift.

“As a result, we are able to confirm a tentative arrival time for guests departing aboard the Margaritaville at Sea Islander,” Margaritaville at Sea added.

As part of its year-round schedule out of Tampa, the Margaritaville at Sea Islander is set to offer a four-night cruise to Mexico.

The Carnival Paradise also delayed its arrival into Tampa due to the fog, according to an update shared by Brand Ambassador John Heald.

In addition to confirming the port closure, Carnival Cruise Line told guests not to proceed to the cruise terminal until receiving further information.

The company later informed passengers that while the port had reopened, confirmation regarding the ship’s arrival time was still pending.

“I know this is very disappointing for those people waiting to get on the ship, so in advance, thank you for your patience,” Heald said.

Sailing roundtrip from Tampa, the Carnival Paradise is set to offer a five-night cruise to the Western Caribbean that features visits to destinations in Mexico and the Cayman Islands.
