The Exploris One returned to France ahead of being sold off as part of Exploris Expeditions & Cruises’ liquidation.

After spending over a month in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria in Spain, the vessel arrived at the port of Caen over the weekend.

According to Mer et Marine, legal proceedings for the sale of the former Silver Explorer are already underway.

The ship will be sold as part of the liquidation process of Exploris, which was ruled by the Nantes Commercial Court earlier this month.

A call for tenders was reportedly launched on Nov. 10, 2025. Potential buyers were able to inspect the 1989-built vessel in Caen before placing an offer.

Sale proceeds will go to paying down Exploris’ debts, which include its former banking and financial partners.

The Exploris One was in Las Palmas to undergo a routine drydock in early October when Exploris was placed into administration in France.

Having completed a summer season in Northern Europe and the Arctic, the 132-guest ship was set to undergo technical work ahead of repositioning to Antarctica.

As it looked for an investor, Exploris initially announced that the project was moving ahead and upcoming expeditions were set to operate as scheduled.

However, the Nantes Commercial Court ordered the liquidation of the company and the sale of its assets a couple of weeks later.

Before being acquired by Exploris, the Exploris One spent over a decade sailing for Silversea as the Silver Explorer and the Prince Albert II.

Built at the Rauma-Repola shipyard in Finland, the 6,130-ton vessel also sailed for other operators during its 36-year career, including Society Expeditions and Sally Line.

Extensively refurbished over the years, the vessel underwent a refit in Chile ahead of launching service for Exploris in December 2023.
